Jinshan Park , in Shanghai's Zhangjiang National Innovation Demonstration Zone, was opened in December 2012 as a site for industrial bases in the biopharmaceutical and biotech sector. It covers a planned area of 21.08 square kilometers, 8.9-sq-km of that for the Jinshan Industrial Zone.
The other 12.2 sq-km was set aside for the Fengjing Industrial Zone and
the Fengjing Industrial Park, a new energy industrial base, a part of China's National Torch Plan, and an intellectural property demonstration park with environmentally friendly printing, and new information technology.
The biopharmaceutical part was an innovation-oriented demonstration area that got Science and Technology Ministry approval in 2013.
The park has support from the central and local government in playing a key role in regional economic growth and innovation and is expected to help with strategic emerging industries, advanced manufacturing, new materials, an equipment manufacturing, while adjusting the regional economic structure and gaining advantages in global competition.
