A start-up accelerator camp for new digital medical and health businesses was officially launched in Shanghai's Zhangjiang High Tech Park on Sept 28.

The camp, organized by global consulting company PwC China and Zhangjiang local government, is designed to promote the development of innovative technologies, products and solutions in fields such as the application of big data in the medical and health care sector, customized and mobile health care solutions, and the application of robots in the health sector.

A total of eight carefully selected tech start-ups, whose products and technologies are considered to have great market potential, participated in the camp.

SYNYI AI, which specializes in research into the application of big data in health care, has developed a semantic analysis system that is able to standardize the unstructured records kept by many Chinese hospitals.

Tmirob, a solution provider for high-end service robots, produces robots for use in operating rooms. In the future, its products will include robots used for medical health and life support.

According to Huang Jia, marketing and sales partner at PwC China, PwC hopes to uncover the next unicorn company—a former start-up with a market value over $1 billion—by launching the camp.

The company will help the start-ups participating in the camp build connections with the world's leading medical businesses and offer them valuable guidance.

The participating start-ups will also have the chance to receive subsidies and support in product R&D, brand promotion and business development from the Zhangjiang government.

Zhangjiang's Vπ entrepreneurship workshop is also working with PwC to serve the start-ups.

PwC, also known as PricewaterhouseCoopers, is a multinational professional services firm and one of the big four auditors. Its innovation centers in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen also give strong support to the incubation of new technology, new businesses and new products.
