Zhang Ao, a professor at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, said at the meeting that the SIMM currently has more than 30 drugs that are under clinical research, but it’s facing difficulties in there being a lack of clinical resources.

According to Xia Duo, general manager of Shanghai International Medical Zone, to solve the problem of clinical resources, Zhangjiang National Innovation Demonstration Zone will strengthen the construction of the medical complex and the clinical research hospital, and further facilitate the industry chain of medical innovation.

Zhangjiang, as the core carrier of industrial clusters, is responsible for the promotion of industrial innovation and development. It will strengthen the ties between the government and enterprises, and accelerate the promotion and application of innovative products.

Moreover, to realize clinical transformation, supportive policies encouraging innovation, offering incentives for talents, and access to medical insurance, among others, need to be implemented. Shanghai has issued a series of relevant policies in response to these needs.
