The Shanghai laboratory of the National Time Frequency Measurement Center was recently launched in Zhangjiang Science City, Shanghai's Pudong New Area.
The laboratory integrates research and development (R&D) of time frequency measurement technology, quantitative traceability services and talent cultivation.
It was approved by the State Administration for Market Regulation in October last year.
China has been prioritizing the construction of the national time frequency measurement system in recent years, and the Shanghai laboratory is an important step toward achieving this goal.
According to an expert from the laboratory, the lab can pinpoint the time down to the precise nanosecond, which is more accurate than current satellite calibrations and has fewer measurement transmission errors.
During the launching ceremony, the Shanghai Institute of Measurement and Testing Technology, which operates the laboratory, signed a cooperation agreement with the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE).
Shanghai is striving to become an international financial center. Time frequency is an important part of ensuring financial security, according to SSE.
At present, SSE requires a time accuracy of within 100 nanoseconds.
Additionally, the laboratory also provides time calibration services to biomedical enterprises, research institutes and various service platforms in Zhangjiang.
